AliGhandtschilores_1Dixon – along with partner Âme – is the man behind the critically acclaimed Berlin-based label Innervisions. His last foray into the world of mix CDs came via 2007’s Body Language Vol. 4 on Get Physical. But a lot’s changed since then and the simple fact is that there has never been easier to access music than the present – especially if you are not willing to ever pay for it. Combine this with the ability to find just about every released and unreleased 12-inch, podcast and mixtape of almost any aspiring, successful or legendary DJ/Producer. On top of that, instead of slowing down, the majority of labels and producers keep on turning the wheel fast and faster. The urban myth and techno folklore of the record that is outdated after two weeks, turned into harsh reality. So why bother at all? Speaking for the other side, why spend hard-earned money on a product that is accessible free of charge on every Internet-DJ-page and just an easy mouse click away via the usual p2p sources? These thoughts and a reaction are the basis for Dixon’s brand new CD and the first in a series – Temporary Secretary.

Josh Wink - When A Banana Was Just A Banana (2009)It’s nearly impossible to talk about Josh Wink without mentally referencing the acidic caterwaul of his ‘95 hit, "Higher State of Consciousness"; a record so successful that it has often managed to overshadow 15 subsequent years of hard work and underground dance hits. Wink, to his credit, has ignored the preconceptions of those only familiar with his days as a dread-locked dance pin-up—preferring to pursue his own path instead of attempting to recapture past glories.

His latest release, When a Banana Was Just a Banana, sits comfortably in the grey area between house and techno—a niche that has seen the city of Mannheim become a key dance music metropolis in recent years. Banana is no mere reaction to current trends, however. It’s a continuation of the work Wink has been putting out since 1989.

John Tejada – Fabric 44 (2009)
November 16th, 2008

American DJ/producer John Tejada will mix the next entry into Fabric’s celebrated compilation series.

Fabric 44 will be a heavily edited mix from Tejada, who is renowned for his studio prowess. Says the DJ, “I did edit the tracks quite a bit…to take it one step above of what you might hear when a DJ plays out. I wanted the whole track selection to turn into one piece of music: a techno-classical piece that has movements and moods from start to finish, similar to a conductor with a classical piece of music.” The symphony will contain a host of tunes from Tejada’s own Palette label, as well as two tunes from Hardwax in and among the rest.

Fabric will release John Tejada’s Fabric 44 on January 12, 2009 in the UK.
