Resolution 918 (2008)

The United Nations’ Resolution of the title was adopted by the UN Security Council to verify and condemn crimes against humanity perpetrated during the Balkans Conflict, after the independence of Bosnia Herzegovina.

With this mandate, the International Criminal Tribunal at The Hague sends volunteer French police officer Jacques Calvez to Srebrenica to find evidence of the genocide carried out by the Bosnian Serbs.

Six years of research with the support of an international team, hampered by countless obstacles, will lead Calvez to institute the proceedings that today see accusations filed against Karadzic and Mladic.

JCVD“JCVD” is an action-packed, comedic satire of the life of movie hero Jean-Claude Van Damme (”Bloodsport,” “Universal Soldier”). Playing himself self-deprecatingly, Jean-Claude finds himself out of money, fighting for custody of his daughter and losing every good action role to Steven Seagal. In an attempt to escape, the aging star walks away from his shrinking spotlight and returns home to his native Brussels.

But when he is thrown into a real-life hostage situation, everyone sees a side of Van Damme they’ve never seen before as he takes on the police, battles the perpetrators and creates a media firestorm that captures the attention of the world.

In the movie, Eastwood plays a disgruntled racist Korean War vet named Walt Kowalski, who sets out to reform his neighbor, a young Hmong immigrant teenage neighbor (played by newcomer Bee Vang), who, as part of a gang initiation, tried to steal Kowalski’s prized possession: his 1972 Gran Torino. Walt ends up confronting prejudices that have isolated him.
